Toyota one of the largest and the most popular brand for cars in relation to the reliability and safety has suffered a lot in the past year and early days of this year due to recalls related to some safety issues. Here we have taken some excerpts from an article from Guardian, which provides step-by-step consequences of the recalls.

In January 2009, Toyota says that it will recall 1.3 million vehicles globally due to some problems with seatbelts and exhaust system. Toyota recalls nearly 690,000 cars made in China because of faulty window switches in August 2009. Toyota announced the biggest recall in its history in September where more than 4 million vehicles involved in the US. This is because the accelerator pedals could get trapped in floormats or get struck.

Again in January 2010, it recalled around 2.3 million vehicles in the US to fix the faulty accelerator pedals. It said that it would suspend US sales and halt North American production of eight models involved in accelerator pedal recall. It recalls 1.8 million vehicles in Europe. It extends its recall to China also.

Lawyers in UK and US advised Toyota owners to stop driving their cars immediately as the faulty accelerator pedals are potentially dangerous.

Recently, a new defect, momentary loss of braking ability at low speeds on bumpy roads was reported in Toyota’s Prius hybrid model. It could also result in yet another recall by Toyota. The concerned authorities are checking the issue.
