The Ford Motor Company, introduced Ford India in 1995. By the use of modern integrated manufacturing facilities at Maraimalai nagar Chennai, Ford India manufactures and distributes the automobiles and engines. The models of the company included Ikon, Endeavour, Fiesta, and the recently launched Ford Figo. It provides employment for around 4,000 people.

Sales of cars in India are increasing day by day due to high credits given by banks. Different companies are launching their new companies in India which inturn makes the sales market much more stronger.

The main goal of Ford India is to become the major production and the main export hub for both the diesel and the petrol engines and to transport 1,000 petrol engines. The engine export program is used for the development of both economy and the local auto industry.

The export demand will increase gradually for the both the years 2010 and 2011. As of now, the exports are increasing to 2,500 per month. Engines which are manufactured by ford India will be exported to Asia Pacific and South Africa.

One of the vision of the export expansion is to create the centers for enhancing the efficiencies, consistency, skill sharing, cost competitiveness etc. Apart from all these features the Ford India uses this approach for getting the quality and the production efficiency.

The engine plant program main aim is to meet the needs of the customers or people of the Indian Vehicle market and export opportunities. The Ford Company had invested US$500 millions at the Maraimalai Nagar site for making the plant much more effective.

The area of the plant is 40,000 square meters and technology improvements had been done in such a way that so as to meet the best practices. According to the company, the capacity of the plant has been developed in order to meet the demands of the Indian Vehicle market and they produce around 250,000 engines per year.
