Pagani, an Italian automaker is entering the US auto market with Huayra, a super car. It is the main competitor for Volkswagen’s $1.3 million Bugatti Veyron coupe in the segment.

The 700-horsepower two-seater is priced at 825,000 euros, which is equal to about $1.1 million at current exchange rates. The company produced only 18 cars in 2010 and the production is expected to be double next year.

The car has a 6-liter, 12-cylinder engine and develops about 700 horsepower. Top speed as expected by the company is to be 230 miles per hour. Its weight is 3000 pounds which enhances speed and handling. The body of Huayra is made up of embedded strands of titanium which in turn prevents the carbon fiber from shattering. Nuts and bolts used in the car are also titanium. The dashboard instruments are designed by a Swiss watchmaker. Much of the interior is done with shiny billet aluminum. This car is generally designed to enjoy but not for racing.

The Huayra is named on the South American God of wind and is yet to be certified as legal street in the U.S. The number of the cars they are going to sell in US are more than the cars sold in Germany and Swiss.
