The Indian youth is facing huge risks from party drugs like Ecstasy and MDMA because of their large populations and rising disposable income according to a senior UN official.

These synthetic drugs are easily available in India unlike the drugs like heroine or cocaine. According to the world drugs report, ATS (amphetamine-type stimulants) have become a bigger problem in the developing countries like India and China.
Synthetic drugs like Ephedrine, amphetamines and Methaqualone are generally abused at rave parties.

The world drugs report states that there are no prevalent estimates of ATS consumption in India. But the huge size of the population of about 0.73 billion aged 15-65 years in India is more vulnerable to these drugs.

Moreover there are many pharmaceutical companies that produce these drugs and sell in the market, as there are no strict rules in India. There is no exact data showing how many companies producing which type of drugs and how they are being marketed. Even there is no data regarding the ATS problems in India. The last study in India was made in the year 2001 and was published in the year 2004.

The addiction of these drugs makes it difficult for a person to concentrate on his job. They appear more cheerful, stay awake longer or lose weight quickly along with feelings of anxiety and hyper stimulation.
