They have annual business receipts of $1,000 or more ($1 or more in the construction industries) and are subject to federal income taxes.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"> Based U.S. Census Bureau report of \u201c non-employer Statistics: 2008,\u201d the nation had 21.4 million non-employer firms in 2008. There was a decrease of 1.6 percent from 2007.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"> Among the 50 counties, Wayne County, Mich., with the largest number of non-employer establishments led the nation with a 6.8 percent increase of non-employer establishments between 2007 and 2008. It was followed by Harris County, Texas with a 5.6 percent increase, and Miami-Dade County, Fla., had a 3 percent increase.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"> There was increase in number of non-employer establishments, but two states Texas and Louisiana, plus the District of Columbia had a decline between 2007 and 2008.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"> U.S. Census Bureau stated that the non-employer businesses make up the majority of all U.S. businesses yet average less than 4 percent of all receipts. Many of these are self-employed individuals whose businesses may or may not be their primary source of income.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"> Between 2007 and 2008, Maine experienced the largest decline in establishments with a 4.2 percent decrease, followed by Delaware with a 3.8 percent decrease and Nevada with a 3.7 percent decrease.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There are no pain employees in the non-employer businesses.
