According to latest figures from GE Capital, 91% of the UK SMEs still believe that the growth to come from is the domestic sales, despite the weak pound. Only 8% (a significant drop in comparison with surveys of 2008) of them are in accordance with the overseas expansion through exporting.

Despite the calls made by the Government, to focus more on exports, taking advantage of weak pound, rather than concentrating on domestic sales, many small business owners are failing to take advantage of the situation. The Government has urged firms to expand their current business by exporting as British exports will be able to find an attractive opportunity to overseas buyers due to weak pound and also the firms can minimize the currency vagaries by exporting, as the firms find it increasingly expensive to import goods and services.
