On Jan 12th 2010 Haiti was struck by a major earthquake. The earthquake showed 7.0 magnitudes on Richter scale. The capital city of Haiti is completely reduced to rubble. This is the second largest earthquake in Haiti and the most powerful disaster occurred after 200 years.

Due to the earthquake, communication was disrupted, electricity was out in some places and relief is largely hampered due to damage of infrastructure. Tens of thousands of people were dead and many more were injured.

The US was first to respond to the relief operations. US public helped injured people by donating to organizations that offer medical care and other relief to the region. They also started air droppings of the relief material and sent troop to assist the relief program. According to Red Cross one third of the Haiti population was affected by the earthquake. There are 1.5 million people were left homeless due to 7.0 magnitude earthquake.
